Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Alchemy | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Charles Hartford But Why Tho? A Geek Community While Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Alchemy delivers some strong moments, these points of light in the production are ultimately swallowed up by a plot that both rushes through so much and manages to be far too slow in succession. This is followed by brief action and conflict, then it's back to explaining everything. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Gui C To those who don't know, this trilogy is based on the manga "Fullmetal Alchemist", and the anime "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood", which is quite possibly one of the best stories ever told. It's a powerful tale of optimism, human connections, the destructive and constructive power of righteous anger. It tells a tightly woven story with a large cast of incredibly compelling characters. The pacing is incredible, there's not a wasted minute. It's funny, it's tense, it's sad, it's beautiful, it's deep. It has changed many people's outlook on life, and made me a more optimistic person. The live-action adaptations though? I do NOT say this lightly, but this might very well be the worst film I have ever watched. Every single scene is taken directly from the manga / anime, but skips over the entire point of said scene. It tells the broad strokes of the plot points with NONE of the heart, none of the drama, none of what made the story work to begin with. The characters are somehow watered-down versions of the originals and also barely recognizable as them, at the same time. How? I don't know! This film is incompetent on levels that I, a filmmaker myself, cannot even begin to comprehend! This trilogy butchers the source material in a way reminiscent of M Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender. Except, somehow, even worse. Remember when I said there's not a single wasted minute in the show? Trying to compress it into feature films was never gonna work, and somehow they managed to cut out all the important parts and keep only the irrelevant ones.If you're even mildly considering watching this film, I beg that you watch the anime instead (remember to watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood though, not the original 2003 anime, unless you want the more complicated version of events). It's a beautiful story. Even if you've never watched anime before, I can't think of a better introduction to the medium. If you have watched the anime before and are now considering watching the adaptation? Don't. As a fan of the anime, who KNOWS what's meant to be happening in all these scenes, this is even more soul-crushing. Just go re-watch the anime, man. Za duże skoki między miejscami i w czasie, za dużo próbowali wcisnąć w 1 film, przez co niektóre rzeczy są z czapy Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Suzume S Like the other reviewer, I have to agree. There is just way too much story left to be shoved into one movie. *ending spoilers follow*And because of some of the material that's been sheared off, there's no realistic way Roy can regain his sight, like he presumably did in the Brotherhood anime/manga. I mean, huh? Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/22 Full Review ashley s Awful animation and bad acting that was favorably saved by the happy ending. The anime made me cry because of the sad ending the Elric brothers have to go through. Luckily, this movie gave me the happy ending I was hoping for. Even their final battle with Father was heavily emphasized and was given justice in this movie (unlike in the anime). As a fan of this anime, I would give this a 4.5 star for giving justice to the anime I grew up on. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
